Databases
Databases are a researcher's best friend! You can find articles from books, magazines, journals, newspapers, film clips, images, primary sources, encyclopedias, specialized encyclopedias such as biographies on inventors, scientists, actors, writers, current events, and opposing viewpoints to name just a few. Articles can be e-mailed, printed or saved.

A nonprofit public charity whose purpose is to provide resources for critical thinking and to educate without bias. We do not express opinions on our research projects ("issue websites"). Our mission statement is:
"Promoting critical thinking, education, and informed citizenship by presenting controversial issues in a straightforward, nonpartisan, primarily pro-con format." They accomplish their mission by researching issues that they feel are controversial and important, and work to present them in a balanced, comprehensive, straightforward, and primarily pro-con format at no charge.
Sources for Photos
Use these sites to find photos to add to your projects and papers. They don't have license fees. If necessary, you should still credit the source of the photo even though you are allowed to use them for free.
Yale Digital Commons - Cross Collection Discovery (CCD) provides a way to search across Yale's collections of art, natural history, books, and maps, as well as photos, audio, and video documenting people, places, and events. The content searchable in CCD. There are over 1,500,000 records and 250,000 digital images available.
Federal Resources for Educational Excellence - This is a list of photos and pictures that are available for free educational use from federal governement departments and agencies. It includes short videos, photos, pictures, works of art and other media from over 80 sources.
Creative Commons - Look for photos, drawings and other creative works on the Internet that have a Creative Commons licence logo attached. Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that creates legal tools allow work to be placed in the public domain in a simple, standardized way. It enables creators to keep their copyright while allowing certain uses of their work — a “some rights reserved” approach to copyright. The combination of their tools and their users is a vast and growing digital commons, a pool of content that can be copied, distributed, edited, remixed, and built upon, all within the boundaries of copyright law.
